Week 6 Food Storage Challenge
Here is this weeks food storage challenge.
10 cans of soup / Detergents
10 Cans of soup store bought or home canned, pick what your family likes to eat no point in having something they wont eat.
Detergents, if you MAKE YOUR OWN then get the things you need to make it with borax, bar soap, washing soda ( you can MAKE YOUR OWN WASHING SODA out of baking soda, much cheaper) and if you make your own bar soap just make some plain soap and throw a small piece in your washer. My Mother in law talks about when they were young they made all their soap and would just throw small pieces in when they were washing.
Keep adding to your water. A small town not to far from us had the water pumps go out at the water plant they have been with out water couple days. It just shows that it can happen anywhere.
Put a little more money back if you can. I know that part is hard but if you have an emergency you will be so glad that you did.
How is the cooking from scratch coming? I am going to try and start posting a few dinner recipes that I am using in my menus, that are quick and easy but from scratch.
Hope you have a great week
Thank you for all the information. I have a question regarding setting aside funds. Exactly where does one put these funds? Hopefully, not a bank or anything like that save for the Feds shutting it down. A safe within your household?
ReplyDeleteJoani,
DeleteHi Hope you are doing well. We do have a safe but before we did we would keep it in the freezer. Just wrap it up to look like it belongs if it is in the freezer if you have a fire or something like that it has a better chance of surviving. Hope this helps.
Take care
Connie
We keep our money in our safe and in different areas of our home. Although, the most of our money is in our savings account in our bank. I never thought of putting it in our freezer. That's a great idea. I think I'll go and put some in there. You are so smart. I truly enjoy reading your blog. I dont' live on a farm or ranch yet, but as soon as the husband is done with corporate, I hope too. Have a wonderful day, Joi
ReplyDeleteI have heard about putting it in the freezer but burglars have become wise to that. And, didn't the bills get a dampness and get mold on them? I live in the city & my house has been broken into twice with them taking my tv, lap tops, & a couple of guns. Now, have a safe but....and, do have some stashed throughout the house but if fire, it would all be gone. :(
ReplyDeleteI'm a minimalist (lazy) prepper. I never thought about detergents. I'm going to stock up on some now. Thanks for sharing at the This Is How We Roll Link Party on Organized 31.
