300 a Month,Menu, Week Goals.

Been busy this past week helping Joleen move out into her own place. ( It is going to be so strange not having her home.) She still has a few things left to get but for the most part she is moved out. She got a place with a friend not to far from here. I had forgotten how much stuff you need starting out, even just getting the basics. Luckily I had quite a bit of stuff I was able to give her, we furnished her house and a lot of kitchen stuff enough to get them started ( at least I hope).

With that going on didn't get to much else done. Did get 7 quarts of spaghetti sauce canned.

I started selling Doterra oils something I have been thinking about doing for some time now.
As you can see not much done, oh well always next week haha.

Goals for the week
I want to get more spaghetti sauce canned (have you ever had a word that your brain just refuses to remember how to spell? I swear every time I go to write spaghetti I have to look it up, drives me crazy :)  )

Need to mow the back and front yards and mow down some weeds along the driveway.

Bought 2 cases of fresh corn yesterday so I want to put these in the freezer, I still have several jars canned from last year.

I got several yellow squash in my bountiful baskets so I want to put some of them in the freezer.

Move a lot of the daycare stuff to Joleens now vacated room.

Get flyers made for our upcoming music festival.

Replant the pots of flowers by the front door. Forgot to have the girls water them while we were gone so between that and the grasshoppers, they didn't survive. I found some replacement flowers on clearance sale so I don't feel to horribly bad about having to replant.

I would like to make several crock pot meals for Joleen so they have something to eat while trying to get settled in.

Hopefully I can get that all done along with all the have to do things.

300 a Month Challenge

Well as I mentioned a little while back I have had prepper and frugal fatigue, so I kind of fell off the wagon and bounced very far away from it. But I think I am back in the game again, I am going to have to start over on my 300 a month, pretty sure I exceeded my limit the past few months. 300 a Month April

Another busy month, Not sure where all the time goes.
The first of the month we got my Mother in Law moved into the house in town. Andy had to make a wheel chair ramp for it, then went out to her place and brought back her chair and several other things that she wanted.

One of Joleen's friends is going to be staying with us for a while so we brought up a camper that I had bought a few years ago. They got it cleaned out and doable for her to stay in, there is no water so she will have to come inside to shower and eat but it gives her her own space.

We branded one weekend, the weather was horrible windy, and a little chilly. We were only going to do half but decided to just get them all done. We do have one cow that hasn't calved, so we will have to brand it and a couple that Andy bought at the sale barn as soon as it is born. The day after we branded we moved 3 loads to different pasture.

Katie had prom this month. It is so sad to think that this was the last prom, since Katie will be graduating this year, kind of sad to think I will not have kids in school anymore. They had grand march outside it was pretty chilly and had been raining earlier, I felt so sorry for all the girls you could tell they were freezing. They all had fun though.

We spent one weekend working on taxes finally got them all done, we said last year we weren't going to wait until the last minute this year, oh well maybe next year we can get them done sooner haha.

Andy and I went to Farmington for the weekend just to get away, it was nice to just kick back a little, We ate at Texas Roadhouse so so good.  We were going to go to Aztec ruins Andy has never been but it was pouring down rain so maybe another day. On the way back home we decided to go through Durango, we got rained on all the way to Durango then it turned to snow until we got about twenty miles from home then nothing. We were really hoping to get a little rain out of this storm.

My spending for the month wasn't to bad, but not great, but I did get some things on sale.

Milk which was 20 dollars a week so 100 dollars for that.
City Market had cheese and canned broth on sale so I got some of each I spent 46.99 on that.
Then the miscellaneous stuff eggs, frozen raviolis, #10 size cans of tomato sauce(for spaghetti sauce) 40.07
2 Bountiful baskets 33.00

100.00
 46.99
 40.07
 33.00

Total 220.06  I had 3002.10 left for the year so minus the 220.06 I have 2782.04 left for the year.

I did get 7 quarts of spaghetti sauce canned hoping to get some more done soon.

Have a great week and hopefully starting next week I will have the menus and goals going again.

300 a Month for Febuary / March

Oh my goodness February and March were such a  busy months. The first weekend of Feburary we had people over to play music, then it just got crazy after that.

The following weekend was the Cattlemen's, meetings and banquet. The meetings were good. we had some state and local representatives, in addition to our local sheriff. Was very informative some good, some not so good.
The banquet was great though, really really good steaks and fixens, they picked the cattleman and cowbell of the year. drew for the quilt and once again we didn't win ( guess I am going to have to make my own, although I say that every year and have yet to do it haha) The dance afterwards was good had a great band as always. It was so nice to visit with everyone seems like some of the people you only see once a year so it is nice to be able to visit with them.

The weekend after that we had my parents 40th wedding anniversary party which was a lot of work but  turned out great. Most of the kids were able to make it and a few of the grandkids, when you have 10 kids it's hard to get everyone together at the same time.

The last weekend was the Fireman's banquet and awards. Joleen got her badge and is an official fireman/women on the fire dept. The week before that she pasted her EMT test so she is also a certified EMT. Very proud of all she has accomplished this year.

March on the other hand has been busy but not so great.
The first of the month my step son had some major medical issues that we had to deal with, then as soon as we got that leveled out my Mother in Law started having some medical issues they took her to a hospital in Provo UT to try and do some work on the veins in her legs to help with the circulation. They were unable to do anything with them though. We had to make a fast trip to Provo in the middle of the week to go and get her . They put her in a nursing home for rehab then we will move her to a house that my Brother in law has, She wants to go home but she is so far out in the middle of nowhere it just isn't doable. This way it will be easier to get her help and to check on her more often.

We also started calving, Had one heifer that had her calf and was more interested in going to eat then taking care of the calf so we had to get it cleaned off and give it a bottle a couple times. We locked the cow and calf up together and she finally took the calf .
Andy bought a couple day old calf at the sale barn to put on our milk cow ( she makes so much milk she needs at least two calves on her), She hadn't calved yet so we had to bottle feed it for almost two weeks.

I also had a massive amount of dental work done so through most of this my mouth was in a lot of pain and I couldn't' eat anything.

Once again we were late getting stated on taxes with all this going on and having issues with the computer. So we are trying to squeeze time in to work on taxes with out having to file and extension.

And to make it all even better my washer died, I will have more on that a little latter.

Glad March is over and hope things will start to level out a little.
Although Katie graduates the  end of may and I am no where near ready just now working on getting invitations  ordered.  I did manage to get all the onions canned and in the freezer, chicken potato soup canned, oranges dehydrated and the lemons all done.

One thing about it though being so busy you don't have time to spend much money. I am just going to do a quick version of what I spent.
February, 181.78
March, 116.12
Total of 297.90 for March and February.

So the  3300 that I have left for the year after January minus 297.90 leaves me with 3002.10 for the rest of the year.

Have a great week will try to get every thing else caught up soon.

300 a Month Challenge, Menu, Goals

We had people over Saturday to play music again. A better turn out this time as the weather was a lot better. I made a big pot of Chili for the music, which was kind of nice for the cold weather. The storm didn't come in until Sunday morning, when it did though we got about 3 more inches on top of the over two feet we already have. ( I am so over the snow).
Sunday afternoon 3 of my brothers and their family's, my Mom, Dad, and some friends all come over to go sledding in our back pasture. My brother pulls a old car hood that he rigged up behind his jeep. Well the snow was to deep and since it had snowed that morning it was super soft on top so the jeep wasn't able to get through it. So hopefully another day soon.
After that I ran Katie into town  to turn in her paperwork for work since the roads were so bad. Then came home and feel asleep on the couch while Andy watched the football game. I figured since I had Chili left from the night before, I might as well make some fry bread for Navajo Tacos which made the whole family happy haha.

The only thing I bought this week was milk so all I spent was 20 dollars.
20 dollars this week added to the 95.55 total for the month is 115.55 for the month. that leaves me 184.45 for the month, and 3300.00 left for the year.

So I guess this week I will try to get all of last weeks goals done.
This week I want to get the oranges and grapefruit put up. I need to get started on the onions and the potatoes before they start going bad. I am going to have to wait a little longer on the chicken coop, my wheel barrel is buried under the snow, its not to bad so it won't hurt it to wait a little longer.
I really need to get my sewing machine out and get started on a bunch of stuff, Katie's robe, pants mended, a couple quilts I need to finish, some storage bags, a baby blanket, just to name a few of the things I need to get done.
I got a serger for Christmas I have started the video on it, need to finish watching it so I know what I am doing.
Yes I just copied last weeks list. I have so much I need to get done and I'm not sure where all the time goes. Although with Joleen gone a whole lot for school and training I don't have the help that I had and it sure makes a difference. I do want to start planning the garden tis week, I am going to do a few things different so I do need to get started on that.

How are you doing on your spending and goals this week, I would love to hear from you.

Have a great week.

( out one of my back windows, a lot of the snow has already melted)

Well I didn't do as good as I did last week, had to go to town and that always means I spend money. I did find some Christmas lights at Wal-Mart on clearance for 75% off, I got several boxes to use next year since I used all my old ones on the back yard, I also need a few more for the yard this summer. I had to buy eggs, with all this cold and snow my chickens are not laying at all. Got bath tissue and Corn & flour tortillas ( I am making burritos, breakfast burritos and taquitas for the freezer and store bought tortillas are much easier to work with.)

I got the Lemons almost all done, Lemon syrup, preserved lemons with salt, and with sugar, lemon oil, lemon extract, lemon vinegar, and dehydrated lemons.
Butter made up, whipped topping made, yogurt and cream cheese.
Part of the shed organized, It has been so cold we just run out and put up, or grab what we need so it was getting a little cluttered.
I did get started on tax stuff and worked a little with my sock maker. I was doing it all wrong so had to go to their website and figure out what I was doing ( thank goodness for the internet haha).
That was about all the extra I got done. I decided to wait on the green chili, it is frozen so it can wait a little longer.

This week I want to get the oranges and grapefruit put up. I need to get started on the onions and the potatoes before they start going bad. I am going to have to wait a little longer on the chicken coop, my wheel barrel is buried under the snow, its not to bad so it won't hurt it to wait a little longer.

300 Month challenge, Menu, Goals

Another busy weekend, we had to move some of the cows from down the road and bring them home. It has been super cold here, it has been getting 5 to 6 below at night and not warming up over 32 degrees during the day. Then with the snow getting so deep that they can't find anything to eat under the snow.  We have been having to haul hay every evening to feed them, so we decided to bring them home to make it a little easier to feed.

The cows are waiting patiently for the others to come over the hill.

Andy put a couple bales of hay in the back of the pickup and the cows just followed and I brought up the rear.

We weren't able to get a good count on them , Andy was going to do a count the next night when we fed. But of course as always we have to have a couple that don't like to cooperate. Monday late afternoon we got a call from the neighbors and a couple of cows were still down there. Andy put more hay in the back and I was going to follow, the cows had other ideas though. After a lot of chasing ( a little yelling and maybe a few bad words) and a little help from a friend that was coming down the road we finally got them home.

Saturday evening we had a few people over to play music, not a very large turnout with the weather the way it is. It was a lot of fun though, I got another mandolin lesson and my brother is learning the guitar so he came over for a while to get a lesson

I never got to town this weekend so the only thing I spent was the 20 dollars for milk. When I went to pick up the milk, the lady I buy from was in the barn and she gave me a quart of cream. I will make a little more butter with it, and some whip cream for the apple dumplings I made the other day. I haven't made sour cream yet but found a pretty simple way to make it so will be experimenting with it.

So I spent 20 dollars, the leaves 280 for the month. And that leaves 3580.00 for the year.

To these I will add toast or fruit.

Goals for the week
Well I got not one thing done I had planned to do last week. Joleen has been working in the E.R and on the ambulance as part of her A-EMT class so she hasn't been her much to help me.
I did get the house deep cleaned for when we played music. And got quick books set up for 2016 for the day care, I had to totally start over since I didn't keep up with it last year.
So I will add all the things that didn't get done last week to this weeks list.
I have green chili in the freezer that I didn't have time to get canned last fall so I want to get it canned this week.
Start on tax stuff so we are not to the last minute again this year like we were last year.
Lemons and oranges in the dehydrator.
Start on Katie's robe, she got some fabric and wants me to make her a robe out of it.
I got a sock maker and want to start trying to use it.
Start canning lemon juice.
Clean out the chicken coop.
Maybe I will have a little better luck this week in getting it all done.

Hope you have a great week.

300 a Month Challenge

I will be starting  the 300 dollars a month challenge again. Since I didn't keep up on my posting towards the end of last year, I will try to do a recap of what all I spent, all through right towards the end I sort of fell off. All in all though I think I did pretty good last year but hope to do better this year. I do have some new money saving ideas and plans.

I will post every Monday how I did the previous week, and please feel free to share your money savings for the past week also. I will also be posting the menu for the week and the goals for the week.

I don't count daycare supplies since they are tax deductible. And I don't count canning supplies such as jars and lids, I figure they are more of an investment then an expense.

This amount will include stuff for my food storage.

If you are just starting you food storage and want to try and do this challenge, I would suggest if possible to up it to 350 to 400 a month, so you have a little extra to get started with. I can keep mine a little lower because I do have some stuff put back that I have bought on sale and can use instead of having to buy it that month.

You do need to make a lot of things from scratch, I will try to post as many recipes as possible on making your own stuff.

For this weeks menu.

Breakfast
Oatmeal
Pancakes
Scrambled eggs
Yogurt/fruit
waffles

To these I will add toast or fruit.

Lunch
Waffles
Chicken Noddle soup
French toast
Mac & Cheese
Mini Pizzas

To these I will add  fruit, crackers, or something as a side dish.

Dinner
Crock Pot Chicken Fried Steak with added potato's
Chili with beans and crackers
N. Tacos
Beef Tips with noddle's
Stuffed Peppers and cheese potato's
Chili and macaroni bake
Leftovers

To these I will add a vegetable.

Snacks
Apples
granola bars
Cheese crackers
Cereal
Animal crackers

Andy's snacks that he takes to work
Banana bread and Apple dumplings

This weeks goals
I have green chili in the freezer that I didn't have time to get canned last fall so I want to get it canned this week.
Start on tax stuff so we are not to the last minute again this year like we were last year.
Lemons and oranges in the dehydrator.
Start on Katie's robe, she got some fabric and wants me to make her a robe out of it.
I got a sock maker and want to start trying to use it.
Start canning lemon juice.
Clean out the chicken coop.

Well hopefully I can get this all done. Plus do a deep cleaning on the house, we are having people over Saturday night to play music.

So what are some of your goals for the week?

Monday, July 13, 2015

300 a Month, Week Goals, Menu.

Some of the jars that were at the action,

We have been getting rain almost every afternoon which is very unusual for this time of year. Having a real hard time getting clothes hung out to dry. Seems like by the time I can get outside to do some work it is raining or getting ready too. One good thing though my water bill is going to be pretty low this summer.

I got some crackers and marshmallows dry packed.
The chickens had been getting out and tore my yard up. Katie and I found the hole they were getting out of and got it fixed.   I wouldn't mind them being out if they weren't so stinking hard on my yard. I am thinking of putting a fence in between the yard and coop then I could let them out and they would have to go down below where they won't make such a mess of things.

I got a little more done on my herbal course I am loving it I am learning so much and it is so nice that I can go at my own pace.

We went to an auction Sunday they had a ton of jars ( the picture wasn't even all of them) I got 147 jars for 50.00 that is about .38 cents per jar which isn't to bad.I try to buy used jars for no more then 45 cents each since the news one run about 83 cents. With the new ones you get the lids , the bands and they are clean. Whereas with the used ones they have to be cleaned , they have no lids or bands and I have to count my time for having to clean them.

My spending for the week.
City market had tomato paste on sale for .99 so I got 15 of them I got several more bags of marshmallows, some grapes, and cottage cheese  for a total of 33.99
Wal-Mart some bananas, spinach , ginger, and some ice cream. for a total of 13.27

All together I spent 33.99 +13.27 = 47.26

47.26 + 38.95 from last week is 86.21
213.79 left for the month
2859.35 left for the year.

Once again I didn't get as many of my goals accomplished as I had hoped. With all the rain we have had it hasn't been such a rush to get the drip system finished.

Worked about 10 minutes on my household notebook it will be nice when  get it all done.

So once again I didn't get even half my goals done this past week. I think I have ben having a big case of lack of motivation, not real sure why just know I need to get out of it I am not getting near enough done.

Maybe I will have a little better luck this next week getting things done. The goals for this week are.

Get beans canned
Finish the marshmallows
I want to crochet  afghans for the Kids , Sisters in laws, Sister and Mom. Which is ten in all. So I need to get started, like yesterday haha.
If the weather permits I would like to do the drip and the play area in the yard,
Catch up on the blog.
Work on the notebook.
Get more meat canned
Work on meals in a jar.

Hopefully I can get to most of this.

The Menu for the week

300 a Month, Week Goals, Menu

Well the week didn't start off that great had a freezer go out, so we had to get a new one. We did get a little larger one which will be nice and it was an energy star, so as soon as I take in the paper work we will get a ninety dollar credit on our electric bill.
Andy took the whole week off so he could finish getting all the hay done and leave a few days early to the river. We go down every 4th with several other people to play music. He left Wednesday and I was going to go down Saturday. I took Friday off in hopes of getting caught up on some things. Then I decided to stay home all weekend to get some things caught up. Well as bad as I hate to admit it I got nothing done, I just hung out and chilled with the girls most of the weekend so now I am even more behind haha.
I did get 7 quarts of spaghetti sauce canned.

Here is my spending for the week.
I spent 38.95 at city market on milk, cheese, cottage cheese, marshmallows, grapes, junket tabs, and powerade, The powerade was on sale for 39 cents if you bought 10 so I got 10 so I would have them for the bottles to put my homemade gator aid in. City market is the only place that sells the junket tabs for making cheese ( putting into food storage hoping some day I can start making my own cheese) They had marshmallows on sale so I got 4 bags to dehydrate.

So for the month I have spent 38.95 and have 269.045 left for the month. and 2906.61 left for the year.

Well I pretty much got none of the goals for last week done.I did get another unit completed in my herbal class.
So the goals for this week will pretty much be the same.

Get some more meat canned.
I have been redoing my drip system on my plants hoping to get finished or at least all most finished this week.
Get caught up on the blog.
I have a few ideas I want to do in back yard play area for the kids so hoping to get started on that.
I have been working on a household notebook so want to work some more on that.
Hopefully I can get more done this week then last week haha.

Menu for this week

Breakfast
Pancakes
Scrambled eggs
Yogurt and fruit
Waffles
Cereal

Lunch
Grilled Cheese
Chicken soup
Macaroni and cheese
PB & J
Pancakes

Will have what ever kind of fruit I have, and crackers with the soup.
For Andy's lunch he will have leftovers from the night before.

Dinner
Cowboy casserole
Home made pizza
Crock pot Chicken fried steak
Beef tips
Stuffed peppers
Mexican steak

Will have a veggie of some sort and bread with each meal.
Saturday
or Sunday we will have leftovers.

Hope everyone has a great week.

300 a Month, Week Goals, Menu

Joleen on graduation day with my Dad and Mom.

It has been a very busy two months. I got a tons of yard work done ( will have more on that later), getting ready for Joleens graduation party. Then on the day of the party it rained and rained some more so we ended up moving the party to the Fire station. We were able to have the after party at the house so I was able to use the yard a little, that I had worked so hard on. We had a taco bar for the party, We had beef tacos, chicken tacos, and elk Mexican steak, with all the fixens, refried beans, salsa, queso,  chips,  two of my sister in laws  made some chicken enchiladas and some cupcakes with graduation hats made from peanut butter cups and Hersey bars. We had a lot of food and a lot leftover but I was able to freeze most of it and dehydrate the lettuce.

Haven't done much canning this past couple months, I did get 21 quarts of meat canned the other day.

Was able to go to the mountains a couple weekends ago for the afternoon my Dad and one of my brothers  and his wife were camping up there so two of my other brothers and their family's and I were able to go up for dinner. It was kind of nice to get up where it was a little cooler we even needed to build a fire when the sun started going down.

We got our garden in finally, all the rain we got rally messed everyone up as far as planting. We just have the one  garden at the house this year since we don't have the lease on the other place.

Got our hunting tags in and Andy, Katie and I all drew our Elk tags. Hopefully we will be able to fill them.

I bought  a thermal cooker, a while back I had mentioned a wonder oven and one of the readers wrote that she had just gotten a thermal cooker. So I had to look in to them, was very impressed so instead of getting a wonder oven I got a thermal cooker. I have cooked a couple things in it. I will be sharing the recipes soon, that can also be used in a wonder oven.

I also got a wheat grinder after a whole lot of research I picked the Nutrigrain mill. I am very happy with it so far. Is so nice to be able to put the wheat in and have it in just a few minutes as opposed to grinding it by hand haha.

Well here is my spending for the last two months.
I spent 224.00  on food for the graduation party. ( I know a lot but as I said I was able to keep all the leftovers).
In addition I have spent 180.00 the last two months. So the total for the last two months is 404.00 that gives me a leftover balance for the two months 196.00.
That leaves me with 2945.56 for the year.

My goals for the week
Get some more meat canned.
I have been redoing my drip system on my plants hoping to get finished or at least all most finished this week.
Get caught up on the blog.

I bought an old camp trailer a couple years ago so I am hoping to get it moved up here to the house and get started on that project ( I know just what I need another project haha).
I have a few ideas I want to do in back yard play area for the kids so hoping to get started on that.

300 a Month, Week goals, Menu.

My new brand necklace Andy had Ann Schwarting make, she does great work. Love it.

Things have been soo busy around here trying to get everything ready for graduation, getting taxes done, calving and branding, yard work, potatoes,  FFA Banquet,( Joleen received her state degree) and seems like a million other things.

We finally got taxes sent off with 5 days to spare. It has never taken this long to get them done, but not having all of last years info really made it challenging to say the least.

We branded this last weekend, only have 5 cows left to calve. Then we will brand those last few and we will be done with that.

When we lost the computer I also lost all the address, so I am trying to gather up all the address so I can get graduation announcement sent out. ( finally got them ordered should be here today or tomorrow).

I have been working like crazy to get the yard ready. Doing things I have wanted to do for a few years, and some stuff that has just needed to be done.

I finally got all the potatoes put up. I froze, dried, canned and canned beef and chicken soup.(was starting to wonder if I would ever get them all put up haha)

Well here is my spending for March.
City Market had Milk, Cheese, Peanut butter, gold fish(I like to keep a few of these on hand for a snack on the go for the girls) and pasta on sale this month.
I spent 129.49 at City Market
16.94 at Wal-Mart on chicken and beef bullion and T.P.
For a total of 146.43. Add that to the beginning of the months 104.02 for a total of  250.45 for March.

March 250.45 with 49.55 left over for March.
That gives me 3030.17 left for the year.

So far for April I have spent 40.61 on cheese, kidney beans( I have a new recipe I want to try that calls for kidney beans) Spinach ,bananas, and salmon this is another thing I don't use a lot of but with the issues on the west coast with the fish populations dying off I want to have a few cans on hand ).

For April I have spent  40.61 which leaves me with 259.84 for the month and 2989.56 for the year.

The goals for this week are to continue getting things ready for graduation. I haven't been working on my herbal class so I do need to try and put in a little time on that.
