Make your own Laundry Soap

This is so easy and so cheap to make, especially if you use your own homemade soap and make your own washing soda.

I am out of home made soap ( on my to do list with so many other things lol)
So I used fals nepta I just made a small batch because I like to use my home made soap so hopefully this will last until I can get some made.

Grate the soap you will need 1 cup grated soap.

1 cup Baking Soda
1 cup washing soda you can go Here to see how to make your own
1 cup Borax

These two things are optional
1/3 cup Purex crystals this makes it smell so good, I don’t use this all the time but I figure that I am saving n the washing soda so I can use a little of this, plus you don’t use a whole lot per batch.

1 cup of oxy clean I use the dollar store one or the store brand. I like to use this in the summer when our clothes get so dirty.

Put all this in to a food processor if you do not have a food processor just put into a large bowl.

Mix all together, then pour into a container use 2 to 3 Tablespoons per load.
I have a front load washer ( which I do not like ) so I add the soap to the drum after I put in the clothes

When I make soap I make a batch plain lye soap that I use for laundry soap.

You can double or triple this to make a larger batch.

Make your own Washing Soda

Did you know you could turn your baking soda into washing soda? It is so easy. And it is so much cheaper then buying washing soda.

All you need is baking soda,a pan, and an oven set at 400  degrees

Pour your baking soda in a pan.
put into a 400 degree oven.

Sir occasionally.

It will take about an hour to an hour and a half.

When you make it you will be able to see the difference. Washing soda looks and feels different then baking soda. Washing Soda is grainy, dull , opaque and is separate grains where as baking soda is powdery and crystallized and reflects light and clumps together.

The washing soda you make will look a little different then what you buy. When I first started doing this I had to put some baking soda on a plate and put the homemade washing soda next to it so I could tell the difference but after you do it you will be able to see the difference.

I put baking soda on the top left and store bought washing soda on the top right and the homemade in the middle it is kind of hard to see in the picture but there is a difference.

Homemade Fabric Softener

The girls have been saying they would like to use fabric softener again for the smell and the softness, but I just can’t bring my self to pay that high price for softener, so I did a little research. I found a lot of people use straight white vinegar but I wanted something that had a scent, I found one softener that uses cheap hair conditioner and vinegar. So I went to the dollar store and found some conditioner that smelled pretty good and made some, the girls love it I have to admit I like it to it makes the cloths softer ( I line dry and they tend to be a little stiff) and they have a nice scent. I Know it is not a very self-sufficient thing but sometimes you have to give a little and it is cheap to make.

Homemade Fabric Softener

3 cups warm water
1/2  cups white vinegar
1 1/2 cups conditioner
essential oil (optional.)

Direction: Pour all ingredients into a half-gallon container and stir. Don't shake or it will make an extreme mess! Add essential oils if desired and stir again!

To use: Add the same amount you would the store bought kind about 1/4 cup during the rinse cycle.

Homemade cleaners

Here are some of the cleaners that I use. I buy my Baking soda ( Sodium Bicarbonate ) in bulk at the feed store ( IFA ) they sell it to feed to cows but I figure that sodium bicarbonate is sodium bicarbonate no matter where you buy it. Just a lot cheaper this way.

Hope all of you have a great week-end

    Multipurpose Cleaner

1/4 cup baking soda (sodium bicarbonate)
   1 cup household ammonia
   1/2 cup white vinegar
  1 gallon warm water
Mix ingredients and pour in a spray bottle, store the remining cleaner in tightly capped container. Works like 409
Dilute Bleach
1/4 cup liquid bleach
1 quart cold water
I pour in to a spray bottle and us like clorex clean-up

Magic Mirror Cleaner

1/4 cup dawn        1 cup alcohol
    1 cup ammonia

Mix the ingredients and pour into spray bottle and spray on. Note: I washed my mirrors with a wet rag before I used this the first time to get the residue from the old cleaners off the mirror or it will streak.

Soft Scrub

    3/4 cup baking soda
    2 TBL dawn
   1 cup water
   2 Tbl bleach ( optional)

I mix this in an old dish soap bottle. You do need to shake before you use. You can add a little more baking soda if you want it a little thicker. I add the bleach but it is not necessary.

Be sure to label each bottle.
