Now is not the time for prepper fatigue / frugal fatigue

Seems like everywhere I go on the internet preppers are ramping up their preps and trying to get ready for what is coming. They are all sensing that with so many things going on in the world it is only a matter of time before it all bottoms out.

I had always heard of people getting prepper fatigue, and always thought how can you stop wanting to prep it is so important.
Well about 6 months ago I started losing intrest in prepping I was having a hard time trying to get stuff to put back much less repackage or can what needed to be done. Neglecting my blog , even my yard is suffering. Even wondering if it was all worth it.

I think part of it was I had just got so tired of telling my family and friends that they needed to be getting ready for hard times that never seemed to come. I have gotten to where I don't even say anything anymore because I know they think I am crazy, and that nothing bad is ever going to happen. This is the U.S.  things have always been good here, bad things only happen in other places. Even though there is so much going on right now with all the fires, flooding, tornados, record heat, the economy, Unless it affects them directly they don't give it a second thought. And another thing is I have been dealing with a couple issues in my personal life that I have let get to me more then I should have.

Then to make matters worse I the past few months I have had frugal fatigue also. I have been working so hard the past few years to pinch every penny that I can. Well here lately  I have been taking the  easy way, buying things that I should be making instead, the girls even talked me into buying laundry soap , fabric soften and dryer sheets. I have even been using the dryer instead of hanging out clothes, it is awful.

I am trying to get back to where I need to be. With everything going on here and in the rest of the world I think it is only a matter of time before it all falls apart, although I have thought this for the past several years, But I do know they can only keep kicking the can down the road for only so long, and what is bad the longer they prolong what is coming the worse it is going to be. Not to mention the possibility of a natural disaster.

I really feel like now is the worst time to have prepper/frugal fatigue so I am trying to get back in the swing of things. I have been reading other prepper/frugal sites, reading the comments and realizing that everyone is trying to double down on preps and trying to save money to get ready for what is to come. I have several young mothers that I babysit for ( a couple being single moms ) and my own daughters and their friends that I need to be setting an example for and showing them ways that they can save money in these hard times and in the harder times to come. So hopefully I can get back on track with things, get the blog caught up, more garden and trees planted, sewing, canning, and all the things I need to be working on plus I want to give some classes on canning and saving money.

So have you had prepper or frugal fatigue and if so what did you do to get over it? I would love to hear what you have to say.

  1. I too have been suffering the prepped fatigue. Sit back enjoy today, but do at the very least one thing, even if a small thing, every day. One thing every day. That has been my mantra. While we do go out to eat, vacation, and go to the movies, we stick to a budget and have money for preps.

  2. I have been prepping to the point that I'm not living in the here and now. I had to set back from prepping for awhile and get my priorities straight. I realized that with prepping you can never have enough or do enough so I slowed down and reassure myself that we have a darn good head start. Like the comment above says "one thing every day" is a good motto.

  3. Prepping... I'm not really a prepper... but maybe I am. I grew up on a farm in north central KS. Yes there was a local grocery store (but very expensive). The major shopping was done approximately once a quarter in a town an hour drive away. We always planned ahead and bought to stock up. We also had a garden and canned and froze things.

I still do that today although I live in a town that has everything. I only go to the store once every 2 weeks because I found that when I went every week I was spending too much money. We have a fully stocked pantry, meat in the freezer, and stored water in the basement. We grow a small garden that my kids snack on all summer so nothing gets put up. But I'm happy that they are out there eating fresh vegetables.

I enjoy your blog because of the canning stuff and just all of the frugal things you talk about. Thanks for the blog.

  4. Your honesty is encouraging! I too like the idea of get something done each day to add to your supply. I feel, as I read various information, overwhelmed; as if I am NOWHERE close to being prepared, but I will continue to prepare. I don't want my family to suffer Ike the people of Venezuela presently are. I thank you for the time you take to blog. Keep pressing forward.

  5. Well, you still have the right mindset! Consider what you did a short vacation from prepping to rev up your batteries and begin again! If you look back over this slow time, you may discover that you did more than you think. I had a forced slow down/break this last year as I had two cancers. just now done with chemo and getting strength back. But somehow, by the grace of God, the garden got harvested last year and planted this spring. Maybe everything isn't perfect. So what? Looking back, I did get a lot preserved. I'll take out a jar with a date from this last year and be amazed that I actually got that done! It's good to back off once in awhile and assess. :)

  6. I've been busy canning fruit as this is the time of year that it comes off and just because there is a good year now doesn't mean there'll be a good year next. I was curious that the one comment stated that they had meat in the freezer.....what happens if, in fact, the electricity is turned off. What then? I've been working on storing more water. The one thing that I think you can't have enough of. Even if you use the water for a sponge bath. Am glad to see you back and getting back into the swing of things. I'm always interested in seeing what others are doing.

  7. I've suffered from this fatigue as well. I've even asked God in prayer why He told me to prepare as though it was going to happen tomorrow, and then let things drag on the way they have. His answer; "Because my people; the people I told what was coming; they're not ready yet." Mind you; I'm no prophet. I pray, and this is what I get back. He also said that His patience wouldn't go on forever. I can't live in the prepper mindset 24/7. I have to step back and "live for the day" once in a while. In doing that though, I also tend to see all of the things that led me to prep in the first place, which steers me back onto the course. Stay with it. Try to find that balance point between prepping and "seizing the day." What's coming; it's real...

And those who don't believe you; think of how Noah must have felt... Then think of how the people he undoubtedly warned felt when it started raining... and didn't stop...
