Week 3 Food Storage Challenge

Don’t forget to be filling your empty containers with water ( juice, soda bottles even your empty canning jars) Do not use milk jugs they are not made to last very long and it is hard to get them clean enough to put water in. And always be on the lookout for candles ( 2nd hand stores, garage sales. or on clearance sales.) even if they are a little used.

Week 3 25 pounds Sugar / 10 pounds pasta (If you are going to make your own get 10 pounds flour) I make most of my pasta except for the macaroni which I try to buy when it is on sale.

Also while you are doing this if you see something on sale that you think you will need pick it up. You can catch up the with the list latter. Always better to buy when on sale then not.

  1. YAY! I'll work on the sugar. Have the pasta covered. I freeze it a couple of weeks(suppossed to kill critters), then go to regular storage. Have drinking water in empty juice jugs with dates on masking tape. Still need to check and redo the ones over six months old. Also, I started filling old bleach jugs, etc. with water and labeling it "flush water" in permanent marker - no need to refresh that.

    1. Brenda,
I store my pasta outside in a storage container I try to get it late fall early winter since we get so cold and stay that way for a while my stuff stays froze almost all winter and I have never had a problem with it even though it gets pretty hot in the summer. i do think the freezing helps.
I don't redo my waters if you use traeted water ( city water) it should stay good. If it is flat when you open just pour it between to glasses to put some air back into it. if you use well water you want to add a little bleach to the water and it should stay good. Don't forget that if you store outside where it can freeze to leave a little extra room. (Don't ask how I know it wasn't good lol)

    2. Thanks Connie. Good information. brenda from ar
